Liam Gallagher dedicated Oasis classic ‘Bring It On Down’ to fans who gathered at ‘Gallagher Hill’ at Heaton Park last night (July 19).

Many fans reacted angrily earlier this week after Manchester City Council said that the site had been fenced off ahead of the latest shows to “dissuade people from gathering there,” protecting livestock and recently planted trees.

Last weekend, hundreds of ticketless fans headed to the grassy area, where they could see the large screens showing Oasis’ huge homecoming gigs.

Despite the council’s decision to fence off the area, many fans were filmed gathering again and singing along to Oasis on the mound at Heaton Park this weekend.

It led Liam to dedicate the band’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ classic to the crowd that had gathered, with the Oasis frontman saying: “Loads of people over there behind some hill or summat. Yeah I wanna dedicate this tune to them.

“Yeah, right, if you lot are listening on the fucking hill, ‘Bring It On Down.’”

    Fucking love being a Manc.

Popped by Gallagher Hill in Heaton Park with Draco to have a bit of a listen to Oasis.

Thousands were there, all ages, bucket hats galore, all knew every lyric and were having a top time, no issues at all.

Ahead of this week’s concerts, councillor John Hacking suggested that fans without tickets could find “a real party atmosphere” in the city centre instead.

Hacking added: “The steps being taken ahead of the next concert regretfully mean the distant view of the large screens behind the event stage will no longer be there”.

Elsewhere in last night’s set, Gallagher also referenced the recent “kiss cam” incident at a Coldplay concert where a stadium camera highlighted a man and woman hugging before they ducked out of view.

Footage of the moment started going viral on Thursday (July 17) when the regular “kiss cam” segment of the band’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ show at the Gillette Stadium near Boston appeared to catch tech CEO Andy Byron with his arms around a woman. It resulted in him, tendering his resignation from the company Astronomer yesterday (July 19).

Referencing the incident, Liam joked: “We don’t do that…round here.”

Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police told BBC News that Oasis’s gig yesterday “concluded without any major incidents”, but the force arrested 14 people on suspicion of fraud, assault and drink driving.

The band will play their final homecoming show at Heaton Park tonight (July 20) before they move on for a series of shows at London’s Wembley Stadium next Friday (July 25).

NME gave the band’s first show of the tour in Cardiff a glowing five-star review: “After a ‘90s heyday and an often maligned post-millennium era, this is Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century.

“Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”
