Lucinda Williams has added a new show to her upcoming tour of Australia, which will see her supporting Paul Kelly on his first-ever headlining arena tour. On a night away from the support slot, Williams and her band will make their debut in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on Sunday, August 31st at 8pm – marking her first time ever performing in the hallowed venue.

Williams’ show is titled Don’t Tell Anyone The Secrets, which also serves as the title of her 2023 memoir. It’s described as “part concert, part reading [and] part cinematic memoir” in press materials, and will see Williams performing songs from across her 47-year career and reading excerpts from the aforementioned memoir. There will also be a visual element, with photos and footage from Williams’ life on display throughout in an audio-visual multimedia experience.

Lucinda Williams – ‘Rock & Roll Heart’

Williams first toured Australia all the way back in 1989, in support of her self-titled third studio album. She returned in 1991 and 1993, but then did not tour again until 2004. She played Bluesfest in 2009 and 2012, before playing a run of A Day On The Green dates in 2015 – coincidentally, also with Kelly, as well as Marlon Williams (no relation) and Kasey Chambers as additional supports.

Williams and her band were last in Australia circa April 2023. In addition to a run of co-headlining shows with her old friend Steve Earle, the American singer-songwriter returned to Bluesfest for a third time. It marked her first run of Australian shows since she suffered a stroke at her Nashville home in November 2020, which hospitalised her for over a month and left her unable to play guitar.

A pre-sale for the Opera House show will take place from 11am AEST on Wednesday, July 23rd – which will take place at the same time as a pre-sale for Sydney Opera House Insiders. General sale will then follow on Thursday, July 24th at 12pm AEST. Both can be accessed via Frontier Touring.
