Sex And The City star Kristin Davis has revealed that The Sopranos refused to share their catering at the height of the shows’ production.
The two series both aired on HBO at the same time, and as such shared elements such as filming locations.
Speaking on her Are You A Charlotte? podcast with director Allen Coulter, who helmed episodes of both shows, Davis recalled working at New York’s Silvercup Studios at the same time as The Sopranos.
“The different stages would kind of have a common area of hallways, and The Sopranos would have their craft services, which was like going to the best Italian restaurant that you could possibly imagine,” she shared. “And our craft services was really, really… not that.
“No offense to anyone who made it. But we would just be like, ‘How can we get over there and get the food?’
“And they would guard that food, do you know what I mean? They’d be like, ‘No. You can’t come over here.’ And we’d be like, ‘Please, can we have some meatballs?’ On hour 15, you’re really wanting the Sopranos meatballs, but you can’t have them.”
“I didn’t realise that the mob was keeping you away from the food,” Coulter joked, Davis adding: “They were prizing that food, because it was good.”
In other news, earlier this year, it was revealed that Sopranos creator David Chase initially had doubts about casting James Gandolfini as lead Tony Soprano.
In an excerpt from the new book Gandolfini: Jim, Tony, and the Life of a Legend by James Bailey, one of the actor’s managers Nancy Sanders said of reading the pilot script: “I went, ‘Oh my God, I think I have Tony Soprano.’”
However, Chase was unsure, saying: “I have one concern, and that is, is he threatening enough?”
Sanders replied: “David, if your only concern is is he threatening enough. If you said to me, ‘He’s a little chubby,’ or ‘He’s losing his hair,’ I could understand. But he’s threatening enough. This is your guy.”
Meanwhile, Sex And The City is currently in the middle of the third season of its revival series And Just Like That…, which features Davis back as Charlotte York Goldenblatt alongside Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes.
