WAAX has begun the roll-out for the first music of its new era, following the revival of the band in late 2023 by frontwoman Maz DeVita. ‘Ur A Rat’ is set for release on Friday, August 8th, and will mark the first new WAAX music since their 2022 album At Least I’m Free. To support the release of the single, DeVita will take WAAX on the road across the east coast in August and September 2025.
WAAX have been playing ‘Ur A Rat’ live since late last year. In a statement shared to her social media, DeVita had only this to say about the new song: “It’s cunty.” The Australian shows will be as part of the Jerry Can & A Van tour, which was undertaken by The Belair Lip Bombs last year with support from a range of different support acts including Hoon, Private Wives and Mac The Knife.
WAAX – ‘No Doz’
WAAX released At Least I’m Free in August of 2022, debuting at number 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The ensuing 18 months, however, would prove to be tumultuous. After announcing a national tour with Private Function to support the album, the band announced the tour’s cancellation a month later – having only completed nine of the planned 22 tour dates. Lead guitarist James Gatling exited the band following the cancellation. The band announced a final show for June 2023 at The Triffid in Brisbane with surviving members DeVita, guitarist Ewan Birtwell and drummer Tom Bloomfield. Six months later, DeVita announced that she would continue under the WAAX moniker.
