Hayley Williams has premiered new music on a Nashville radio station – see what fans had to say about the track below.

Yesterday (July 23), WNXP Nashville announced that it would be debuting new music from the Paramore singer, showing off a CD on which she had written the titles ‘Mirtazapine’ and ‘Glum’.

Later in the day, the radio station played Williams’ ‘Mirtazapine’ for the first time ever. The track has yet to receive an official release date, nor has Williams shared any details on social media. ‘Glum’ has also not been premiered.

It is also currently unclear if ‘Mirtazapine’ and ‘Glum’ will be one-off singles, or if they’re part of a larger project – potentially her third solo album.

We’ve got a surprise for you 👀 Tune in to WNXP TONIGHT at 5:30pm CT to listen to the exclusive premiere of brand new music from Nashville’s own Hayley Williams!

Ahead of the ‘Mirtazapine’ debut, Williams shared a cryptic picture of a bottle of Mirtazapine antidepressant pills on social media, as fans only later realised that her new tune is about the medication.

Williams sings: “Here comes my genie in a screw cap bottle / To grant me temporary solace / I could never be without her / I had to write a song about her / Who am I without you now? / Mirtazapine / You make me eat, you make me sleep / Mirtazapine / You let me dream, you let me dream.”

Fans are already taking strongly to the guitar-y song. One fan called ‘Mirtazapine’ “one of the best songs I’ve ever heard”, while others are rejoicing that Hayley Williams is once again releasing solo material.

hayley williams writing a love song about antidepressants, turning it into one of the best songs i’ve ever heard, randomly dropping the cd into a radio station and then staying completely silent on social media is SO hayley williams of her

The premiere of ‘Mirtazapine’ on WNXP comes as the radio station is seeking to raise funds to combat over $1.1billion in public media funding being cut in the US thanks to President Donald Trump signing his much-criticised One Big Beautiful Bill into law.

Williams’ last solo album was 2021’s ‘Flowers for Vases/descansos’, which scored a four-star review from NME. In our review, we wrote: “Perhaps partly as a result of how it was created, ‘Flowers for Vases/descansos’ is less spiny and biting than her debut solo album. While that record brought to mind the intricacies of Thom Yorke and Warpaint, and burned with a simmering anger, this comes from a softer, more exposed place with Williams’ voice as its centrepiece. As if tugging up grubby fistfuls of dead weeds to make room for living things to flourish, ‘Flowers for Vases/descansos’ rakes back the debris and leaves Hayley Williams exposed. Sowing new seeds, it’s an approach that reaps rewards.”

Since the release of ‘Flowers for Vases/descansos’, Williams has shared solo material in the forms of a collaboration with Turnstile in late April, and a sensual Moses Sumney joint ‘I Like It I Like It’ in May. In June, Hayley Williams was announced as a guest feature on David Byrne’s new album ‘Everybody Laughs’.
