Critically-acclaimed, New York City-based indie folk pop singer-songwriter Lauren Minear shares her brand new single Lightweight, an punchy single about loving someone who can’t handle your strength.
The first single from her upcoming album project Boxing Day, Lightweight finds the talented artist exploring the confusing dynamic of codependent relationships, feeling like you’re constantly putting yourself on the line, protecting, sacrificing, and hoping, while the other person remains cold and unchanged. A relatable song about problematic relationships, encouraging listeners to start focusing on themselves in order to grow and stop blaming others for their bad behaviour. A message flawlessly conveyed through Minear’s gorgeous, confident vocals which are accompanied by killer guitars nicely intertwined with steady drums, catchy bass and subtle horn and piano parts that come together to create an overall warm atmosphere perfect for a laid-back weekend. Someone said to me once that every time you point the finger at someone else, you have to point two at yourself, and that really stuck. I wanted to explore not only problematic relationships, but how I’ve enabled and repeated them throughout my life. I’ve always been interested in understanding myself better in order to grow. It doesn’t help me to continuously blame others for their bad behavior. This is someone who lied to me and still owes me money, but I knew it was happening for longer than I admitted to myself at the time. I think I stayed so long because it reminded me of toxic relationships from my past and made me question myself. I won’t do that again.
