Today (July 25), Tame Impala have released a sprawling seven-minute new dance tune, inspired by 1989’s acid house explosion. It comes with a nine-minute music video directed by Julian Klincewicz.

‘End Of Summer’ sees Kevin Parker experimenting with a percolating build, culminating in a euphoric rush far different from any of Tame Impala’s previous output.

“I know I can seem uncaring in moments like these / I just hope it’s enough to say my words don’t come with ease / And I’m sure that you won’t believe but you’ll be on my mind / I waited till the end of summer and I ran out of time,” Parker sings on the chorus.

‘End Of Summer’ comes after over several weeks of Kevin Parker teasing new music. Parker hinted at new music while at Primavera Sound last month. “Er, you guys wanna hear a new song?” he asked the crowd at Nitsa Club during a surprise DJ set.

“You want to hear a new Tame Impala song? You’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realise. There’s no going back from this point on. Alright, let’s do it. Get comfortable.” That song, unknown to people at the time, was ‘End Of Summer’.

Last week, Kevin Parker teased that new Tame Impala music would be arriving soon as he celebrated the 10th anniversary of the hit album ‘Currents’. That update came just days after he shared another intriguing post on social media, seemingly confirming that he has another child on the way, and a new album is on the horizon.

The last image of the carousel post showed a whiteboard that appears to show his progress on a handful of new songs. Each one has all the aspects ticked off, and is marked “DONE”.

‘End Of Summer’ also ushers in a new era for Kevin Parker and Tame Impala, as it marks the musician’s first release Sony Music’s Columbia Records. It comes after Parker sold his past and future music catalogue to Sony Music in May last year.

While Tame Impala have yet to officially announce the album, it is expected that ‘End Of Summer’ will feature on the highly anticipated record. The next Tame Impala record will be the first since 2020’s ‘The Slow Rush’, with an EP of B-sides and remixes coming out two years later.

Since that record, Parker and Thundercat collaborated on the standalone single ‘No More Lies’ in 2023, and the former has also featured on songs from Diana Ross, Gorillaz and Justice over the past couple of years.

Earlier this year, he went on to win his first Grammy for ‘Neverender’ – one of his Justice collaborations, and before then, he worked closely with Dua Lipa on her 2024 album ‘Radical Optimism‘.

Tame Impala will next support Justice during the French duo’s Australia tour this December. Tame Impala will play a special DJ set at each of Justice’s Aussie shows.
