A free-flowingly atmospheric and emotive success from Saline Eyes, “No You and I” consumes across both dreamy adoration and intensified layers of vocals, arpeggiated synths, and hypnotic rhythmic entrancement. The project comes via Akron, OH based singer-songwriter James Hackett, who notes that the track “is more of an outlier on the EP. It is less a traditional verse/chorus/verse pop tune, and more along the lines of avant-garde sectional song.” The EP referenced comes out this fall, and the high quality of “No You and I” certainly has us strongly anticipating it.
A number of memorable moments emerge throughout, from hauntingly harmonious vocal layers like at 01:30 to more striking tonal shifts. In one case, a piano-touched folk elegance arrives at the three-minute turn, as the “ten years from now” string-laden introspection concludes “No You and I” with impactful allure. “No You and I” is a fantastic showcase in songwriting from Saline Eyes.
