New England singer-songwriter Dan Pallotta shares his brand new single Trash Man, a poignant and meditative folk ballad.
Out now via CThings, Trash Man is a warm and intimate song inspired by an unassuming moment: a morning walk past a man lifting a trash barrel into a truck. This song finds the talented artist elevating a seemingly ordinary figure into a deeply human symbol of dignity, obsolescence, and change. You can feel the raw, honest emotion pouring from Pallotta’s deep vocals which are beautifully accompanied by delicate guitar and banjo plucks and sparse piano keys. The song’s simplicity makes the poignant storytelling stand out even more, creating a warm, soothing soundscape perfect for an introspective day alone.
The impulse to write this song was immediate and visceral. I had the backbone lyrics done before my walk was over. This man isn’t just taking away trash. He is being made into trash—discarded by a world moving past him. The trash man takes our trash away, yes, but trash is also that which we no longer have any use for. That’s the reality in the case of this character as well. Robotics are making him obsolete.
