Kee’ahn is back, and they’ve pretty much brought a whole village with them. The Naarm-based neo-soul angel just dropped ‘Heavy’, a lush, heartfelt anthem about about community, connection, and the healing power of togetherness.
Opening with a field recording from the stunning Mossman Gorge (Kuku Yalanji Country), ‘Heavy’ immediately grounds you in place, memory, and the steady heartbeat of Country.
Kee’Ahn – ‘Heavy’
“It’s a reminder that our heaviest moments are meant to be shared. That we need each other,” Kee’ahn says of the track. “It’s about the power of community, holding on and letting ourselves be held. A message we all need right now.”
Written as an act of reclamation, ‘Heavy’ channels the weight of systemic harm and personal grief into something radiant — a soulful exhale of survival, solidarity and strength.
Meanwhile, the accompanying music video is a love letter to family, femininity, and the lands that raised them. Shot in their hometown of Townsville (Gurambilbarra and Thul Garrie Waja), post-flood, it features Kee’ahn’s actual backyard, with cameos from their mum, nan, cousins and aunties #nawwww
‘Heavy’ also happens to be our first taste of a brand new 5-track EP that Kee’ahn has coming down the pipeline this year. The single follows last year’s groove-laden bop ‘Love You More’, continuing the artist’s radiant evolution into a new realm of neo-soul pop.
With production from Pataphysics, instrumental brilliance from the likes of OjiAji, Yusuf Harare Jnr, Kawel Che, and Kasinda Faase, plus choir guidance from Yara Alkurd, ‘Heavy’ is also a team effort in every sense.
Take it for a spin up above.
