Onefour have announced a show at Sydney‘s City Recital Hall – officially marking their first-ever headlining show in their hometown after several failed attempts. It follows on from their debut Sydney performance in November 24, where they performed at Parramatta’s CommBank Stadium as support for The Kid LAROI. The group’s updated national tour itinerary can be found below.
The Look At Me Now tour, which kicked off last month in Hobart, did not include a Sydney date when it was announced in April. The tour is taking place in support of the group’s debut album, which was released in June and debuted at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart on the week of its release. In a press statement regarding the announcement of their Sydney show, Onefour member J Emz said that it “means the most to the fans” that the Recital Hall show has become a reality, “because they’ve been on this journey with us and experienced the highs and the lows that came with it all”.
“I feel like this moment is for us all,” he said. “We finally made it. I just feel good being able to finally perform in front of [our] friends and family – and people who have backed us from the beginning. It’s definitely a moment for the city, and not for ourselves.”
Onefour – ‘Luxford’
As detailed in the Netflix documentary Onefour: Against All Odds, the Western Sydney drill rappers have faced pushback and adversity from NSW Police since they began – owing to their believed ties to the NF14 street gang, and its violent clashes with rival gang 21District. Through the sub-group Strike Force Raptor, the police force has pressured venues not to book the group, leading to their debut national tour getting cancelled outright (which would have included a show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre), and have even attempted to get their music pulled from streaming services.
In 2022, The Kid LAROI brought out Onefour as unannounced special guests at his second of two shows at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, where they performed their collaborative single ‘My City’ live together for the first time. LAROI also allowed the group to perform two songs by themselves: ‘Shanks And Shivs’ and ‘In The Beginning’. The following year, the group performed their first ever full live show in Sydney at Listen Out – replacing Metro Boomin, who cancelled a month out.
