IDLES have released a raucous, volatile new track called ‘Rabbit Run’, which is taken from Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming feature film Caught Stealing.

It is one of four new tracks the band has made for the crime film, which all feature as part of a soundtrack composed by Rob Simonsen.

The film, which will come out on August 29, features Austin Butler, Bad Bunny, Zoë Kravitz, Action Bronson and more. The film’s full soundtrack will also be released on the same day.

IDLES were brought in to capture the energy and feeling of the 1990s New York punk scene. In a press statement, director Aronofsky said: “I built Caught Stealing to be a roller coaster of fun and wanted to supercharge the film by main lining a punk sensibility.

“I don’t think a band has really been tasked with performing a score for a movie. Who better to collaborate with than Idles? It has been a dream watching them bend their notes to blast a hole in our movie screen.”

    Listen to ‘Rabbit Run’ below.

Last month, IDLES spoke to NME about how they mark “the end of an era”, and how they’re already looking to the next one in working on “more driven” new material.

“We’ve recorded a bunch of songs,” frontman Joe Talbot said. “We’ve got like 10 songs and we’re going to go back and do a bunch more. We’re doing some other projects in between, but we’re going to come back to the album later in the year and get it finished. We’re recording with Kenny [Beats] and Nigel [Godrich] again. It’s really magic, I can’t wait.”

He later added: “We’ve been doing a film project and a computer game project. They are going well. We’ve been working with a composer and doing a score in a studio, which is really cool. I’ve learned a lot, and it’s been really great. It’s been a really busy year, considering I didn’t think it would be busy.”

Later this week, IDLES’ Block Party takes over T Bristol’s Queen Square on Friday August 1 and Saturday August 2. Visit here for tickets.

They will be joined by the likes of Soft Play, Lambrini Girls, dubstep DJ and producer Sicaria, The Voidz, Hinds, a range of local DJs, and many more.

“It’s the venn diagram of everything we love,”  Talbot told NME of the line-up. “It took me a long time to get the line-up right. We didn’t just want to succumb to availability – we wanted to make it the best it can be. We wanted it to be a beautiful mix of everything we’re into and everything we love. It worked out really well.”

In other IDLES-related news, last month Tony Hawk revealed that he made sure the soundtrack to Pro Skater 3+4 featured the music of both Fontaines D.C. and IDLES.

Elsewhere, the Bristol band dedicated their Primavera Sound Festival 2025 set to Palestine. Talbot kicked off the band’s set by yelling “Free Palestine!” right at the start of their opening number ‘Colossus’, and the band dedicated the entirety of their set to Palestine.

Elsewhere during their performance, Talbot led minutes-long chants of “Viva Palestina!”, which translates to “long live Palestine”. He at one point also asked the audience “Donde esta las Palestinas? (Where are the Palestinans?)”
