MercyMe banks its record-padding 21st No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian AC Airplay chart, as “Oh Death” ascends a spot to the top of the list dated Aug. 2.

During the July 18-25 tracking week, the song advanced 1% in plays, according to Luminate.

“Oh Death” was co-authored by Walker Hayes, Ethan Hulse, Bart Millard and Tedd Tjornhom, the lattermost of whom also co-produced it.

Notably, that’s the same Walker Hayes who scored the 24-week Hot Country Songs No. 1 smash “Fancy Like,” which started its rule in July 2021.

“Oh Death” is the lead single from MercyMe’s album Wonder & Awe, due Aug. 8.

The track follows MercyMe’s “Always Only Jesus,” which peaked at No. 6 on Christian AC Airplay last July, contributing to the group’s total of 32 top 10s. Before that, “To Not Worship You” reigned for six weeks beginning in September 2023. MercyMe earned its first chart-topper in June 2003, when “Word of God Speak” began its 21-week command.

Jeremy Camp and Casting Crowns are tied for the second-most Christian AC Airplay No. 1s, with 13 each. TobyMac follows with 12.

    Cobbs Leonard Does It Again

Tasha Cobbs Leonard rolls up her ninth leader on Gospel Airplay as “Do It Anyway” climbs 4-1 after a 12% weekly burst in plays.

Cobbs Leonard co-authored the song with Sarah Jakes Roberts. It’s from her album Tasha, released July 25. The 15-track set marks her first created entirely in-studio.

“Do It Anyway” is Cobbs Leonard’s seventh straight Gospel Airplay leader. It follows her feature, with Blanca, on Jekalyn Carr’s “You Carried Me,” which dominated for two weeks last November. Cobbs Leonard’s streak started with “You Know My Name (Live),” which led for a week in October 2019.

Cobbs Leonard’s seven straight No. 1s tie her with Pastor Mike Jr. for the longest run in the chart’s history. The latter’s streak also marks the longest career-opening run of consecutive leaders.
