Tony McCarroll, the former drummer of Oasis, has revealed what caused his sacking from the band.

    • Read More: Who was Oasis’ first drummer?

McCarroll was one of several founders of Oasis in 1991, performing on debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ and singles ‘Whatever’ and ‘Some Might Say’ before his departure in 1995. He was sacked from the band and later sued them for royalties.

The band’s former drummer famously clashed with Noel Gallagher and the pair repeatedly argued as documented in his book Oasis The Truth: My Life As Oasis’s Drummer Tony McCarroll. In his lawsuit, McCarroll eventually settled and accepted an out of court settlement for £550,000 and gave up all claims for future royalties.

Now, in a new interview with The Sun during a fan event at Red Studios in North Shields, he spoke about the incident which he believes led to his sacking.

He said: “There was an incident in Paris. I was next door to Noel’s hotel room, which I didn’t know. I had an argument with some girl I was with and the next day we were doing the soundcheck.

“I just finished my bit, and he turned around and, in front of everybody, he went, ‘You fucking keep me awake again, you’re getting fucking sacked, mate.’”

McCaroll added: “Probably the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I fronted him and said, ‘You won’t fucking speak to me like that again, no chance’. It was only a matter of weeks later I got the P45.”

He went on to say that he didn’t regret standing up to Noel.

McCaroll added: “What sort of man would it make me if I didn’t? Everybody was under threat every day, but it was just bravado. I never saw it being something serious like losing your position in the band.”

Since his sacking, he has never spoken to Noel but admitted he would be happy to make amends now. He said: “Would I sit down and have a cup of tea, a Rich Tea, with Noel, and go, ‘What the fuck happened, mate?’. I would.”

The former drummer also said he has watched Oasis on their current reunion tour, which will see them continue at Wembley Stadium tonight (July 30), and admitted it was “amazing”.

Elsewhere, earlier this year McCaroll shared his message to the band ahead of their highly-anticipated reunion tour this year. It was recently announced Oasis and Amazon have teamed up to reissue merchandise from their 2006 tour of North America.

Liam and Noel Gallagher kicked off their long-awaited ‘Live ‘25’ tour dates with two shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and five homecoming dates at Manchester’s Heaton Park earlier this month.

This past weekend saw them play the first of two of their seven scheduled gigs at London’s Wembley Stadium.

At the first of the 41 comeback shows, NME gave the historic night in Cardiff the full five stars, and shared: “After a ‘90s heyday and an often maligned post-millennium era, this is Oasis redesigned for the 21st Century.

“Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits.”
