Sydney melodic hardcore heavyweights Bloom have just announced their second full-length album The Light We Chase, spookily due out this Halloween (October 31). And if lead single ‘Withered’ is anything to go by, we’re in for the band’s most gut-wrenching and ambitious work yet.
The follow-up to 2022’s In Passing LP was born from a storm of emotional chaos — crumbling relationships, crises of trust, and moments of staring into the proverbial abyss.

“You can’t catch light in your hands, and you can’t have darkness without the light casting its shadow,” drummer Jack Van Vliet explains, calling the record “our widest exploration of how far metalcore can be pushed and shaped”.
First lick ‘Withered’ sees the band grapple with questions about whether the dreams they’ve poured their lives into were worth the pain it took to chase them, soundtracked by the heaviest, most soul-wrenching instrumentals Bloom have ever put to tape.
Produced with raw intent, The Light We Chase looks pretty damn set to cement Bloom’s status as one of Australia’s most exciting heavy acts on the rise.
Fans can catch the band live this September on their ‘Withered Across Australia’ tour with Inertia and Post Heaven, before they head to the UK/EU with Thornhill and Ocean Grove in October and join Silverstein’s 25 Years of Noise Tour in North America alongside Thursday and Free Throw.
