YouTuber Basically Homeless has started electrocuting himself to get better at online shooter Counter-Strike 2.
Counter-Strike 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter that pits two teams (counter-terrorists and terrorists) against each other in a number of different game modes. Despite backlash over changes made from 2012’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the game has a fiercely competitive online community.
In a bid to become the best in the world (and to counteract the drop in reflexes that happen after you turn 30) YouTuber Basically Homeless has created an app that detects enemies when they appear on his screen and triggers an electric shock to certain muscles in his arm. This forces him to aim at the enemies within the game and shoot, all without thinking.
The entire “unpleasant” development can be watched on his YouTube channel or in the video below.
The experiment does eventually work, especially when sniping enemies with a scoped weapon. “It truly made it feel like I was just better than I actually was,” he explains after racking up another headshot.
However it’s not the most fun way to play Counter-Strike 2. As Basically Homeless explains, “I’m not sure I want to spend the three hours I game a week getting tasered in the arm”. He also claimed the aim-assist set-up wasn’t cheating because it was his “muscles” doing all the work, though he did have to use existing cheat codes to program the shocking device.
The video has racked up more than a million views in two days. “Guy just unlocked a path to a dystopian future and hasn’t realised it yet,” wrote one fan “We are one step closer to cyber-supersoldiers because of you, you gotta know that right?” added another. “This was the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh,” wrote a third.
Basically Homeless ends the videos but listing ways he could make the set-up even more efficient, so perhaps a part two is in the works.
In other news, Gears Of War developers have confirmed that long-awaited prequel E-Day will launch at some point next year after the remastered Reloaded releases later this month.
