King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have been joined by Jello Biafra for a cover of Dead Kennedys’ ‘Police Truck’ – watch footage below.

The collaboration went down at the Field Of Vision festival in Buena Vista, Colorado on Friday night (August 15), with the Australian psych rockers introducing Biafra as “one of our heroes” and “a massive inspiration” to them.

The punk legend wore at pro-Palestine t-shirt, while King Gizzard proclaimed “Free Palestine” at the end of the show.

The rendition of ‘Police Truck’ – which was first released in 1980 as the B-side of the classic Dead Kennedys single ‘Holiday In Cambodia’ – saw Biafra replicate his lead vocal part, with King Gizzard shredding through the track at blistering speed.

    Watch here:

At the end of the performance, Biafra said it was “a great fucking moment in my life” and described King Gizzard as “my favourite band in the world”.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard played:

    ‘Gamma Knife’
    ‘People-Vultures’
    ‘Mr. Beat’
    ‘Field Of Vision’
    ‘Antarctica’
    ‘Nuclear Fusion’
    ‘Oddlife’

    ‘I’m In Your Mind’
    ‘I’m Not In Your Mind’
    ‘Cellophane’
    ‘I’m In Your Mind Fuzz’
    ‘Inner Cell’
    ‘Loyalty’
    ‘Horology’

Earlier this summer, King Gizzard announced they were pulling their music from Spotify over its owner Daniel Ek funding the Helsing corporation, a German company creating drones and AI for military operations.

“Hello friends. A PSA to those unaware: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in AI military drone technology. We just removed our music from the platform. Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better? Join us on another platform,” they said.

“We’ve been saying fuck Spotify for years,” frontman Stu Mackenzie later said. “In our circle of musician friends, that’s what people say all the time, for all of these other reasons which are well documented.”

They released their 27th studio album ‘Phantom Island’ in June, and will be heading to the UK and Europe for a tour of “orchestral” and “rave” sets later this year, including a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Find all the details here and any remaining tickets here.

As for Dead Kennedys, Biafra left the group in 1986 and has not been part of recent line-ups, with guitarist East Bay Ray recently saying: “It’s Biafra that turns down any offers for us to do something; we don’t have any problem. He got caught with his hands in the till and wants to blame us for getting caught, but he should never have put his hands in there in the first place.”
