Jenna Ortega has opened up about her love of Death Grips in a new interview. Check it out below.

The actor, who is best recognised for her role as the titular character in Netflix series Wednesday and for her time in Scream VI, has long been rumoured to be a fan of the experimental hip-hop band. Over the years, she has been seen sporting the merch of the California group, but hasn’t spoken about them until now.

In a new interview with Vogue, the actor showed off the contents of her bag, giving fans an insight into what she carries around with her on a daily basis.

The first item she pulled out was a cap with a Death Grips logo, prompting her to share how she is a big fan of the group.

“It’s my Death Grips hat that probably needs a wash,” she began, holding it up to the camera. “I love Death Grips. We thought that they broke up and they didn’t. I think they’re still going.”

She continued: “I did see them in London. I think I was actually shooting for Dior, and I called my castmate, who was playing my love interest at the time. I was trying to get to know him, [so] I took him to a Death Grips show, but I don’t think he listened to Death Grips so he was really confused by all the headbanging.

“It was the sweatiest venue I’ve ever been in in my life. Everyone was sleek.”

Check out the video in full above, where she also shows off items including an Irish residency permit, some glasses she stole from a fitting, smelling salts that she says promote “mental clarity”, and more.

The comments about her going to one of Death Grips’ shows in London most likely refers to the band’s show in the UK on June 25 2023, when they played at the O2 Forum Kentish Town.

At the gig, a photograph taken by one of the crowd members began to circulate, after they took a very blurry image of another person in the audience and claimed that it was the Wednesday star.

Earlier that year, Ortega also spoke to NME about her love of music while promoting Scream VI, and opened up about her favourite albums at the time.

“I listen to a lot of ‘Discovery’ by Daft Punk or ‘Homework’ by Daft Punk. [Those two albums] have been heavy on my playlist recently,” she said.  “I don’t know why. I think I’m re-going through my Daft Punk phase.”

She also touched on how Scream VI featured tracks by Billie Eilish, Denzel Curry and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds. Of the latter, she said: “The director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Mason [Gooding, Ortega’s co-star] and I love Nick Cave.”

“We have a collective playlist where we throw a bunch of stuff… and a couple of the songs that are in the movie now are songs that Matt and I were putting on that playlist. We put so much of Nick Cave’s stuff on there,” she added.

More recently, Ortega is celebrating the release of the second season of Wednesday, which also sees appearances from Lady Gaga, Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton and Haley Joel Osment.

For Gaga, alongside acting, she has also written new music for the hit series, including a rumoured new track called ‘Dead Dance’.

Ortega opened up about working with Gaga while at SXSW this spring, saying: “It’s the best. She’s the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much.”

“Then just finding out that she’s such a sweetheart and really kind and reserved, it’s very strange. I love that you never know what to expect from her, but you can always expect kindness and generosity,” Ortega continued.

As for Death Grips, Ortega was right when she said that the band are still going. There was previously some speculation that they had split, or at least gone on hiatus; however, the members put the rumours to bed when they shared a statement this spring. “Despite rumor and hearsay, we remain active as Death Grips. -Stefan and Zach,” they said.
