Militarie Gun have revealed that their newest song ‘B A D I D E A’ was originally intended for Doja Cat.

Last week, the fast-rising hardcore heroes announced their new album ‘God Save the Gun’, and shared a new music video for lead single ‘B A D I D E A’. The track is a short, two-minute hardcore banger, that by frontman Ian Shelton’s own admission, almost didn’t make the cut for the record.

Speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Militarie Gun revealed that the song was intended for Doja Cat – who in 2023 shared that she wanted to work on a hardcore album. She said at the time: “I feel like we have enough pop-punk artists right now. And if there needs to be more, then let there be more, but I don’t think I’m the one to do it. I want to explore more of a raw, unfiltered, hardcore punk sort of thing. It’s just something that I’m doing for my own personal fun — getting some drummers and guitarists together. And I don’t even know if that’s gonna make it out there.”

During their chat with Lowe, Militarie Gun frontman Ian Shelton shared: “‘B A D I D E A’ was a song that was at the very last minute hatched, and it was actually hatched ’cause I wrote it for a hardcore record that Doja Cat wanted to do. And then I was like, “Nah, I’m taking that.” For the instrumental, not the vocal. So I wrote the vocal when I knew it was for me.”

‘B A D I D E A’ came with an accompanying music video, which the band have described as the “most technically challenging” one they’ve made thus far. It is just one of 14 songs on ‘God Save The Gun’. The follow-up to their 2023 debut ‘Life Under The Gun‘ is set for release on October 17 via Loma Vista, and you can pre-order/pre-save it here.

‘Life Under The Gun’ was a deeply personal exploration of the cyclical nature of trauma and addiction within families, with NME calling it a “powerful, memorable collection” in a four-star-review: “Structurally, the order of the tracklist ensures each track builds on its predecessor – this is a powerful, memorable collection. Accessible from the get-go, ‘Life Under The Gun’ carries a universal message while staying true to its hardcore roots.”

Back in 2023, the band spoke to NME as part of their feature on The Cover, with members exploring how their sound has evolved since their formation, and how they hope their live performances will continue to resonate with fans.

“Hardcore is very youth-centric and it’s cathartic in a way everybody can relate to, because it’s less about an aesthetic and more about the energy,” drummer Vince Nguyen said. “Whether someone is actively a part of it or just watching, they can feel involved and feel like they’re a part of something that is bigger than them.”

The band are due to kick off a North American tour in September, and have recently announced additional dates for the trek. See the full list of dates below, and get your tickets here.
