Press release –
Los Angeles, CA: On October 17th, pioneers of the Los Angeles underground art damage electronic music scene, Grey Factor (who have been more myth than legend for over 45 years) will release 2 LP’s of unearthed recordings via Damaged Disco Records (US)/Tiny Global Productions (Europe). The two LPs 1979-1980 A.D. Complete Studio Recordings and A Peak In The Signal: Live 1979-1980 were released in 2023 & 2024 and garnered critical acclaim, with Paste Magazine including the 1979-1980 A.D. LP in their 50 Greatest Synth Pop Albums Of All Time in 2024.
When the Future Arrives Without You is a 27-track compilation album that will also be released as a 2 disc CD with a 24 page booklet capturing everything that Grey Factor has ever recorded. Made up of both their previously released LPs 1979-1980 A.D. Complete Studio Recordings and A Peak in the Signal: Live 1979-1980 plus a few surprises, including their first new studio tracks in 45 years. Both these recordings are covers,”12XU” by Wire and “Sauntry Sly Chic” by Campag Velocet.
“12XU” was a jolt of pure adrenaline, two minutes of perfection from one of the best bands of their era, and a huge influence on the band. “Sauntry Sly Chic”, from a group few remember but Grey Factor never forgot, had one of the most infectious grooves they had ever heard, and they loved the lead singer’s live getup: a cycling helmet and fencing gear. It was perfection. These two tracks inspired Grey factor to head back into the studio after four decades away. They have done their best to do them justice, and hope you agree.
They have also added nine unreleased pieces they call the In-Betweens. Created out of necessity in 1979–1980, pre-recorded and played between their live performances, these sonic interludes filled the dead space while they reprogrammed their temperamental analog synths between songs. They are absurd, experimental, and became audience favorites. They think you’ll enjoy them too.
After a decades long search Grey Factor’s two LPs and the bonus tracks found on When the Future Arrives Without You end all speculation of their nonexistence and may just give a band truly ahead of their time the recognition they deserve.
