Sydney Chandler and Alex Lawther lead the cast of Alien: Earth, which expands on the world of Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic.
Set two years before the events of Alien in 2120, the show picks up as a group of soldiers are sent to investigate a crashed space vessel on Earth. Among these individuals is a hybrid named Wendy, who finds herself facing a mix of terrifying creatures.
Along with Chandler and Lawther, the show’s cast includes Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, Adarsh Gourav, Adrian Edmondson and Timothy Olyphant.
Alien: Earth is created by writer-director Noah Hawley, who is best known for other FX shows Fargo and Legion.
Has Alien: Earth been renewed for season 2?
FX and Disney have not announced whether the show will return for a second season yet, but the early signs are positive.
The show’s first episode, which debuted on August 12, 2025, racked up 9.2 million views worldwide within six days across Hulu and Disney+. This figure doesn’t include FX’s own linear channel either, so it’s likely higher overall.
With only four episodes out at the time of writing, a decision on the show’s future will likely be announced when the finale airs on September 23, 2025.
Has the showrunner said anything about season 2?
Showrunner Noah Hawley has described the first season of Alien: Earth as a “proof of concept”, with future seasons a possibility if the show proves a hit with viewers.
“Season one is the proof of concept,” Hawley told Variety. “And if it works commercially, then season two is about building a model upon which we can envision making a season three, four, five.”
He went onto describe Alien: Earth as being built as a “recurring series”, adding: “I don’t know how many seasons that would be. I believe that endings are what give a story meaning, so I have a sense of where I’m going with it.”
Alien: Earth is available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.
