Jem Cassar-Daley has released a new single, entitled ‘Front Left Pocket’. It marks her third release of 2025, following on from ‘Kiss Me Like You’re Leaving’ back in April and ‘Tidal Wave’ in July. Like ‘Tidal Wave’, ‘Front Left Pocket’ was co-written by the the Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung singer-songwriter with Auckland-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Harry Charles. In a press statement, Cassar-Daley revealed that the song stemmed from an overheard pick-up line.

“The guy [said] ‘the key to my heart is in your front left pocket’,” she said. “I think it’s equally cute, corny and cringe – so I took the idea into the studio with Harry, and we wrote this song from that line! It talks about the journey of finding yourself, self-sabotage and how life was before you met your partner that changed everything.” An accompanying music video for ‘Front Left Pocket’ has also been shared, directed by Ruby Fields bassist Tas Wilson – AKA Corporate Giant. Watch it below.

‘Front Left Pocket’ continues what has been a considerably busy year for Cassar-Daley. In addition to releasing three singles, she has also undertaken a headlining national tour, opened for Dan Sultan at his Sydney Opera House Forecourt show and also supported Tim Finn on his Escapade anniversary tour earlier this month. ‘Kiss Me Like You’re Leaving’ was also nominated for Song Of The Year at the 2025 National Indigenous Music Awards – although she lost the award to Andrew Gurruwiwi Band.

In October, Cassar-Daley will open for Bernard Fanning at his one-off Queensland Performing Arts Centre show – celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut solo album, Tea & Sympathy. “I’m so happy to have Jem and her golden tonsils on board for the show,” said Fanning in a statement shared to his social media. “She and her dad, Troy Cassar-Daley, put together such a beautiful and original version of ‘Songbird’ for the [anniversary] album release, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.”
