Naarm/Melbourne post-punk duo HighSchool have locked in the release of their long-awaited debut album, with their self-titled record set to land this Halloween (October 31st) via [PIAS] Australia. To mark the news, the band have also dropped a brand new single dubbed ‘Dipped’, giving fans a further glimpse into their shadowy yet euphoric world.
Made up of Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott, with live members Lilli Trobbiani and Lucy Lamb, HighSchool have spent the past few years fine-tuning a sound that blends shoegaze haze with new-wave grit and post-punk nostalgia. Following their breakout EPs Forever At Last (2021) and Accelerator (2024), plus stints living in London and playing stages across Europe, Japan and North America, the band are now ready to deliver their biggest musical statement yet.
HighSchool – ‘Dipped’
‘Dipped’ builds on the atmospheric energy of earlier single ‘149’, with cold, gothic verses that give way to warm, euphoric choruses.
Recorded between Lewes in the UK and Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios with Aaron Dobos, the track “explores themes of luck, chance, and gambling, using the Greek tragedy of Achilles as a metaphor for addiction, impulse, and human weakness” according to the band.
With their cinematic DIY visuals, a cult following from the UK’s Windmill scene, and production from the likes of Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode) and Finn Billingham (Sam Akpro, Sunken), HighSchool’s debut LP is shaping up to be a defining chapter. Pre-order it here.
