NME’s latest stars of The Cover, Die Spitz, have created an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.

The Austin band are on this week’s (September 1) edition of The Cover, a manifestation of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read Die Spitz’s profile here, written by Huw Baines and featuring photography by Pooneh Ghana.

Die Spitz have curated an exclusive playlist to accompany their appearance on The Cover, which they’ve titled ‘Soundtrack To A Bender’. The four-piece’s offerings to help get in the right zone include INXS’ ‘Need You Tonight’, Monaleo’s ‘We Not Humping’, Creed’s ‘Higher’ and more. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.

In The Cover, Die Spitz discussed their hard-to-pin-down sound, which sees them pinwheel between punk, shoegaze and classic rock, among other genres. “It was important to showcase a little bit of everything that we want to do moving forward,” bassist Kate Halter said. “And to have the freedom of doing whatever the fuck we want, basically.”

That liberated energy is palpable on their debut album ‘Something To Consume’, which will be released by Third Man Records on September 12. The record was produced by Will Yip (Nothing, Mannequin Pussy) and bottles the band’s tight-knit solidarity. “They are my teachers in a lot of ways,” Ava Schrobilgen said of her bandmates. “They’re all very smart, and we like to drink a bunch of sake and then talk about politics. It’s preaching to the choir, pretty much, but sometimes it’s fun to just scream.”
