Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally launched and gaming fans can’t quite believe it.
Hollow Knight: Silksong has become one of the most anticipated games in recent years. Originally planned as an expansion for 2017’s fiendishly difficult metroidvania Hollow Knight, developers Team Cherry later decided to turn it into a full-blown sequel. Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally set to launch in 2023 before being indefinitely delayed.
Last week, it was confirmed Hollow Knight: Silksong will launch today (September 4) and at 3pm BST, the sequel was finally made available for Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and PC gamers. It is also a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass.
“Can’t believe I lived to see the day,” one fan wrote on X. “This is insane, it’s finally out,” added another. As it stands, more than 110,000 people are currently playing Silksong via Steam (according to SteamDB).

However, demand was so high for the game, PC storefront Steam and the digital PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo stores crashed. “This is actually insane. A indie single player 20 buck game is so popular it has crashed EVERY SINGLE GAME STORE,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “When was the last video game release to break the internet like this is right now? Absolutely crazy,” said another.
“So proud of this team. Releasing a game at fair value and having the servers get crushed is a good sign,” added a third.
The epic, 53-song soundtrack is also available to buy via Steam and Bandcamp, with the music set to launch on other platforms in the near future.
There have been no official reviews of Hollow Knight: Silksong with developers Team Cherry wanting fans to play the game first but according to a few early hands-on previews, the game lives up to all the hype.
