Fanny Lumsden has shared her first new original music in over two years – a stand-alone single entitled ‘Look At Me Now’. The track was premiered live on the Tooma singer-songwriter’s recent run of shows opening for Paul Kelly alongside Lucinda Williams and her band, which wraps up tomorrow night (September 7th) in Melbourne. It was co-produced by Lumsden with longtime collaborator Matt Fell and husband Dan Freeman, who also plays bass in Lumsden’s backing band.
In a press statement, Lumsden explained that ‘Look At Me Now’ was “a love letter to [her] younger self”. “The amount of no’s I experienced in this industry is wild, and every single one I am grateful for – because they made me the person and artist I am today,” she said. “Not the wins, but all the losses, the struggles and the hard moments. I think it’s also a reminder that success can be an illusion – and, really, you can find success in every step along the way. It’s a cliche, but I’m feeling reflective and grateful that I can still be driving the van, self-managed, doing my own makeup in the rearview mirror, and yet doing the biggest shows of my career all at the same time.”

‘Look At Me Now’ was recorded piecemeal over the course of Lumsden’s European tour, with contributions from all of her touring band The Prawn Stars: Freeman, multi-instrumentalist Paddy Montgomery, Lumsden’s backing vocalist brother Tom, guitarist Travis New, drummer Riley McPherson and keyboardist Gary Day. “I wanted this song to feel real, hopeful and authentic to my live band, who do all the miles with me and load the van and see the lows as well as the highs,” said Lumsden. “Recording it was a crazy process of fitting in recording sessions whilst on the road, so we are very grateful to Matt for wielding his magic and helping us make it happen.”
The release of ‘Look At Me Now’ is Lumsden’s second single of 2025, following on from the release of her cover of Gotye‘s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ back in June. These releases marked the first since Lumsden put out her fourth studio album Hey Dawn, which was released in August 2023. The album won the ARIA Award for Best Country Album at that year’s ceremony, while in January 2024 the album won Alt Country Album Of The Year at the Country Music Awards of Australia.
