Hatchie has officially shared details of her third studio album, Liquourice. The follow-up to 2022’s Giving The World Away will arrive on Friday, November 7th via Secretly Canadian – marking her first album exclusively for the label since signing a worldwide deal with them. To coincide with the album’s announcement, the project of Brisbane-born and now Melbourne-based dream pop artist Harriette Pilbeam has shared its first music in three years: The album’s lead single, ‘Lose It Again’.
The song was co-written by Pilbeam with musician and songwriter Jenny McLennan, who makes music under the moniker of Orchin. The song was premiered live earlier in the week during Hatchie’s live set as part of this year’s Bigsound, which saw her and her band play at the Prince Consort Hotel in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. Its accompanying music video was directed by Pilbeam’s husband, Joe Agius – who performs his own music as Rinse and plays lead guitar in the Hatchie live band. The clip depicts Pilbeam performing the song in a variety of remote, abstract locations.

Liquourice was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Melina Duterte – better known by her musical stage name of Jay Som. Pilbeam sang and played all the instruments on the album herself, save for drums – which were handled by Warpaint‘s Stella Mozgawa. In a press statement, Pilbeam explained that the album was creatively inspired by “living a very simple life, and having time to reconnect with myself and be alone with my thoughts”.
“This album feels like the culmination of everything I’ve wanted to do with this project since I first started it,” she said. “I focused on the finer details of the trajectory of love found and lost, inspired by my favourite tragic romance films. I’ve never felt more aligned with an album, and can’t wait to share the experience with everyone.”
