Dellwood, the project of Minneapolis-based artist and producer Chris Bartels, shares his brand new single Rain Lost Its Water, an Autumn/Fall melancholy indie-folk anthem.
What I like the most about this song is its warmth and melancholic touch that really sets the tone for introspective days home alone. Those layered, thich, emotional vocals effortlessly capture our attention and share a poetic storytelling of regret and grief after love lost, rooted in memory and season. A gentle unravelling and reflection on how the absense of love changes the way the world looks and feels.
Accompanying his hauntingly beautiful, emotional vocals we have a thick and immersive production that pairs layered harmonies, steady drum beats and slide guitar that build a sonic bed that mirrors the weight of the lyrics. Overall this is a heartfelt and melancholic listening experience with a warm and nostalgic touch.
This one started with two images — the porch with burnt-out bulbs, which felt nostalgic and cozy, and then ‘the rain lost its water,’ which came out of nowhere and carried this heavy, melancholic weight. I became obsessed with marrying those two moods: the heaviness of loss, but also the warmth of memory.
