Metallica are cranking the generosity up to 11 during their upcoming Aussie tour, teaming up with Australian Red Cross Lifeblood to turn fans into lifesavers. The deal? Roll up your sleeve, donate blood or plasma at select CBD donor centres before each tour stop, and you’ll score a limited-edition Metallica t-shirt designed by the band’s longtime artist, SQUINDO.
The design is a one-off for Aussie fans, featuring the lyric “A Sea of Hearts Beat As One” inside a blood drop, plus a nod to Metallica’s Down Under faithful. The tees are available to anyone donating at the Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney centres in the week leading up to the band’s stadium shows, provided they’re signed up to Lifeblood’s loyalty program.
“When you’re saving lives, nothing else matters”
With blood demand hitting a 12-year high, Lifeblood say the timing couldn’t be better. “Don’t let blood donation be the day that never comes, because when you’re saving lives, nothing else matters,” Lifeblood’s Executive Director of Donor Experience, Cath Stone, said in a press statement.
The initiative builds on Metallica’s ongoing All Within My Hands foundation, which has already helped the American Red Cross collect thousands of donations during the band’s US tour. Now it’s Australia’s turn to bleed for the cause – and score some very metal merch while doing it.
“There’s metal in everyone’s blood – some more than others,” Lifeblood posted on their Instagram.
