A soul-searching, heartrending dynamic success from Girl Wilde, “could’ve been” consumes across both starry-eyed synth-pop and anthemic rock vigor. “I went through a 3 year period of getting my heart broken over and over again,” the Los Angeles-based artist says. “I wrote this song for everyone that feels like they were on the cusp of finding real love, only to be left with wondering ‘what if?’”
The initial verses conjure the aftermath of a relationship that comes crashing down before even getting off the ground. “I’m so sick of crying, over-analyzing, everything that we could have been,” the vocals push forward, with the latter words invigorating in their tonal ferocity. Dreamy, twinkling keys and steady acoustic strums ensue within the “now I’m looking back” introspections, gearing up into another stirring central hook thereafter. Gorgeous, spacey synth work then unfolds in the final 30 seconds, dazzling with an atmospheric pop blissfulness. “could’ve been” is a standout success from Girl Wilde.
