Dua Lipa was joined by Death Cab for Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard for a cover of ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’ – watch footage of the moment below.

On Thursday (October 16), Lipa closed out the North American leg of her ‘Radical Optimism’ tour with a final of two stops in Seattle. During the gig, she surprised the audience with a special guest performer – a tradition on this tour which sees her pay homage to local music icons in the city she’s performing in.

Playing at the city’s Climate Pledge Arena, Lipa told the crowd: “Everything we’ve done so far, we’ve touched on so many different genres and artists. I thought tonight I’d do something by an indie legend.

“I love this song for so many reasons. I feel like it just really defines what love is in such a pure form of wanting to follow somebody until the very end. This song really moves me, and I feel very, very lucky because this indie legend happens to be here tonight and he’s going to come up and perform with me. Seattle, please join me in welcoming Seattle’s very own Ben Gibbard.”

Her band cleared the stage when Gibbard emerged with his acoustic guitar, and the pair performed a stripped-back, acoustic rendition of the song, trading verses back and forth before harmonising together on the chorus. Check it out below.

So far, the lengthy list of artist Lipa has covered include Ariana Grande in Miami, Aerosmith in Boston, Sinéad O’Connor in Dublin, Daft Punk in Lyon, Lorde in Zealand and more.

Additionally, Lipa has brought out a number of huge artists to help cover their songs. So far, these have included Billie Joe Armstrong for ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ in San Francisco, Gwen Stefani for ‘Don’t Speak’ in Los Angeles, Nile Rodgers for ‘Le Freak‘ in New York City, Chaka Khan for ‘Ain’t Nobody’ in Chicago, Jamiroquai for ‘Virtual Insanity’ in London, Neil Finn for ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ in Auckland, and Kevin Parker for ‘The Less I Know The Better’ in Sydney.

Her two Wembley shows in June later became the subject of a mini-documentary titled Dua Lipa – The Beat Before (Wembley Stadium), which chronicled behind-the-scenes footage and fan vox-pops from the gigs.

The singer is due to head off on her South American leg of her ‘Radical Optimism’ tour, which will kick off on November 7 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She will then traverse through Chile, Brazil, Peru and Colombia throughout November, before rounding off with three mighty shows in Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros from December 1-5.

Dua Lipa’s South America leg of the ‘Radical Optimism’ 2025 tour is:

    NOVEMBER
7 – Buenos Aires, Argentina – Más Monumental Stadium
8 – Buenos Aires, Argentina – Más Monumental Stadium
11 – Santiago, Chile – Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos
12 – Santiago, Chile – Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos
    15 – São Paulo, Brazil – MorumBIS
22 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos
25 – Lima, Peru – Estadio Universidad San Marcos
28 – Bogotá, Colombia – Estadio El Campín

    DECEMBER
1 – Mexico City, Mexico – Estadio GNP Seguros
2 – Mexico City, Mexico – Estadio GNP Seguros
5 – Mexico City, Mexico – Estadio GNP Seguros

The tour is in support of her third studio album ‘Radical Optimism‘, which NME gave a three-star review. While we wrote that “the sonics on offer here are some of the most interesting that Lipa has worked on”, we also noted that “‘Radical Optimism’ offers little else to latch on”.

In other news, earlier this week, she revealed she is now studying A-level Spanish after passing her GSCE exam.
