Limp Bizkit have tragically announced the death of their bassist and founding member Sam Rivers, who has passed away at the age of 48.

In a heartfelt post shared to the band’s social media, Bizkit remembered Rivers as their “heartbeat” – the pulse that held their chaos together.

    “Today we lost our brother.”

“Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player – he was pure magic,” they wrote. “The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound … His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous.”

The nu metal icon’s cause of death has not been publicly revealed.

Rivers co-founded Limp Bizkit in Jacksonville, Florida in 1994 alongside Fred Durst, John Otto, Wes Borland and DJ Lethal, helping define the sound of late-‘90s and early-2000s nu-metal.

The band’s genre-blending aggression and swagger took over the world with albums like Significant Other (1999) and Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water (2000), both of which topped charts and became cultural touchstones for a generation.

DJ Lethal also paid tribute in the comments, writing: “We are in shock. Rest in power my brother! You will live on through your music and the lives you helped save with your music, charity work and friendships. We are heartbroken.”

“Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends,” the band’s statement concluded.
