New York City-based indie folk pop singer-songwriter Lauren Minear shares her brand new single Bruise, a gentle, acoustic guitar-driven gem that draws on themes of survival, shame, and self-overcoming.
Taken from her transformative new album Boxing Day, which is out now, Bruise is a song inspired by the paradox of loving someone who also causes deep pain, beautifully showcasing the sadness that lies beneath anger. A message beautifully conveyed through Minear’s smooth, enchanting vocals and lovely falsetto that highlighs the fragility of her storytelling. Accompanying her gorgeous vocals we have a captivating production that pairs gorgeous acoustic guitar riffs nicely intertwined with steady drum beats and lush, cinematic strings that together create an overall warm and intimate atmosphere perfect for her storytelling to soar. A great song to listen during a laid-back weekend home alone.
Speaking about the song, Lauren Minear said,
We wrote ‘Bruise’ on Day 4 of our Woodstock sessions, bundled up in coats in a freezing guest house. The environment and the song were well suited, because we ended up with something that sounds fragile. I think the cold added some urgency. It was painful to write and, for a long time, painful to sing. I’m working on that.
