Lana Del Rey has covered Neil Young‘s ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’. Listen to her version below.

The musician shared her take on the track during a performance at last night’s (October 25) Harvest Moon – an annual benefit concert headlined by Young in Lake Hughes, California, which raises money for the Bridge School and the Painted Turtle Camp.

The concert also saw sets from Beck, Tyler Ramsey and Muireann Bradley, as well as Masanga Marimba – a group that plays traditional and popular music from Africa and Latin America.

As well as playing a string of her own hits, including ‘Summertime Sadness’, ‘Video Games’ and ‘Young and Beautiful’, Del Rey paid homage to Young with an acoustic version of his 1972 track, taken from his album ‘Harvest’.

Check out the cover and other highlights from her performance – including a duet with her young niece – below.

Del Rey is preparing to release the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’. The new record had been due to be named ‘Lasso’, with an initial release date of May 2025, but it was pushed back to September when it was renamed ‘The Right Person Will Stay’. Last month, however, Del Rey said she had decided it would now be titled ‘Stove’ and would be released at the end of January 2026.

When she first announced the album, it was widely reported that she would lean into a country direction, however that was then thrown into question when she suggested that she was going to tone that down for a “more Southern gothic” approach.

Details about ‘Stove’ still remain vague, although the singer spoke to NME last year about the album, and suggested that the lyrics might be lighter than on her previous albums.

“I’ve maybe less to say in terms of any self-revealing things like on ‘Tunnel’ or ‘Blue Bannisters’ or ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’, and just more melodic,” she told us. “Maybe more American Songbook style?”

She also added that there would be a “playful” feel to it than she originally planned, saying: “If you hang in long enough, it just feels easy. There’s no vindication, no nothing – I’m just kind of happy to be here. It’s easy-going in that way.”

In other news, Del Rey recently hit back at claims that she grew up rich, saying she has “no idea what that would’ve felt like”.

As for Young, his bandmate recently claimed the music icon was feeling “really sick” and “drained” before he formed the Chrome Hearts.

He headlined Glastonbury this year, and was given a four-star review, and described by NME as “a headline set that proves that sometimes, there’s still power to be found in an old-school approach.

“It is, in short, the definition of no frills,” it read. “It’s testament to the power of Young’s songwriting, then, just how brilliantly it all works, how little the momentum drops.”

Since then, the singer-songwriter has announced a 50th-anniversary re-release of his 1975 album ‘Tonight’s The Night’ and announced that he was removing his music from Amazon Music.

“The time is here. FORGET AMAZON,” he said, announcing the latter. “Soon, my music will not be there. It is easy to buy local. Support your community. Go to the local store. Don’t go back to the big corporations who have sold out America.”
