Minna Ora from Finland is back, and with her new single “Rock” she tells an empowering story. The opening line says it all: “I will stand right beside you just like a rock.” It’s a simple promise. Yet, for me, the way Minna delivers it makes me believe every word she is saying. Also, her vocals have a real weight, sitting perfectly on top of bass tones that you feel as much as hear.

The drums keep everything moving forward, and the guitar tones cut through exactly when they need to, giving the whole thing an edge that keeps you locked in. Minna is talking to someone who’s about to step out into the world, offering them that steady presence we all wish we had when we were figuring things out. At the same time, she’s looking back at her own parent, thanking them for being that rock when she needed it.
