Florence + The Machine have performed a live cover of JADE‘s ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ – you can watch it below.

The London band played a session on BBC Radio 1 yesterday (Monday November 3) as part of this year’s Live Lounge Month. It followed the release of Florence Welch and co’s new album ‘Everybody Scream’ last Friday (October 31).

Explaining her choice to take on JADE’s 2024 debut solo single, Welch said: “I just think it’s one of the best pop songs in a really long time. I think it’s so incredible and innovative, and I love how the structure jumps all over the place.

“It really kind of inspired me to also try lots of different structures and styles throughout my record. So yeah, it was a big influence – especially on ‘Everybody Scream’. That song is like three different songs in one, and kind of so is this. I love it.”

Welch’s epic rendition of ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ featured harp, violin and a full choir. The haunting intro gave way to a throbbing, electronic verse and chorus that largely remained faithful to the original track.

However, F+TM’s version boasted some distorted electric guitar, bringing it further into the indie-rock world. Welch finished the cover with an a cappella line of: “I’ll always love you.”

The band also delivered a live performance of their latest single, ‘Sympathy Magic’. Watch the videos below, or listen back to the full session and interview via BBC Sounds.

Additionally, Radio 1 shared footage of JADE reacting to Welch’s praise on the show – watch above.

When discussing the artist moodboard she’d made when creating new album ‘Everybody Scream’, Welch explained previously: “We were listening to ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ by JADE a lot in the studio, and it was like pulling all those things together.”

The singer-songwriter said she had been “looking a lot at pop” and hailed “the amazing things that are happening in pop” currently, “where it’s so experimental”.

The follow-up to 2022’s ‘Dance Fever’ contains contributions from IDLES‘ Mark Bowen, Mitski and The National’s Aaron Dessner – all of whom worked with Welch on the title track, too.

Welch has also explained that inspiration for the album came from undergoing lifesaving surgery when on tour in 2023. She has since opened up further about the procedure, revealing that she had suffered an ectopic pregnancy.

“The closest I came to making life was the closest I came to death,” she said in a recent interview. “And I felt like I had stepped through this door, and it was just full of women, screaming.”

Elsewhere, F+TM recently covered Lady Gaga’s ‘Abracadabra’, while Welch has shed light on a reference to The 1975 on her new LP, and revealed how Nick Cave “helped so much” with the album.

Florence + The Machine have announced a trio of outdoor gigs in Ireland and Scotland for next summer. These will follow the band’s UK and European tour, and their run of North American dates in April and May. Find ticket details here (UK/Ireland).

Last month, it was confirmed that F+TM would be headlining NOS Alive 2026 in Lisbon.

In a glowing, five-star review of ‘Everybody Scream’, NME described the project as “a tempestuous record, one that stays with you longer than the rage and anguish which, here, is as fleeting, yet deeply magical, as the changing seasons”.
