Netflix has shared a first look at a new Stranger Things spin-off series, Tales From ’85.

The animated project is set to arrive on Netflix next year, and will see the students of Hawkins, Indiana, head on a new set of adventures. It will be set between the second and third season of the original series, and feature an entirely new cast.

Voicing Eleven (who is played by Millie Bobby Brown in the original series) will be Brooklyn Davey Norstedt, while Max will be voiced by Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Lucas by Ej (Elisha) Williams, Will by Ben Plessala, Mike by Luca Diaz, and Dustin by Braxton Quinney.

Other actors on board for the series will be Brett Gipson, who is taking on the role of Hopper, as well as Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips (per Variety).

“Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorising their town in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an epic new animated series,” reads a new logline.

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer are executive producers for Tales Of ‘85, as are Dan Cohen, 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, and Upside Down Pictures’ Hilary Leavitt. Eric Robles has been brought on as showrunner.

In the new trailer, a first look at the animation style is shared, and the Duffer Brothers explained how they were inspired to make a spin-off.

“When we started talking about, was there anything else we wanted to do with Stranger Things, this was one of our first ideas,” they said in the clip. “The idea was to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon. With animation, there’s really no limits. Eric and his team can go wild, and they have.”

Robles continued: “What we have been able to capture is the magic of Hawkins in a new way. Our story takes place between seasons two and three, but we soon learn that nothing is quite as they thought it was.”

“So get your flashlight and backpack, because it’s going to be amazing,” he added.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is set to be released in three parts on Netflix, with the first chapter arriving on Thursday November 27 at 1am GMT. Chapter two will drop at 1am on Friday December 26, and the finale will air at 1am on New Year’s Day in the UK. The latter is also set to debut in over 350 cinemas in the US and UK.

The first five minutes of the upcoming first episode was recently shared by Netflix on social media, and last night (Thursday November 6), Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour reunited on the red carpet in Hollywood. This was the first time they have appeared together since reports emerged that the former had filed a claim against Harbour, allegedly accusing him of “harassment and bullying”.

In other Stranger Things news, fans of the show expressed concern for Joe Keery’s character, Steve, after very little of him was shown in the trailers, and show creators confirmed that Joseph Quinn will not be returning as Eddie Munson for the upcoming season.
