Chappell Roan has admitted she was “quite nervous” about the crowd’s response to her recent show in Mexico City, because of her “pop” sound.

The ‘Pink Pony Club’ singer headlined Corona Capital 2025 in the city last weekend, alongside Foo Fighters and Linkin Park.

Taking to social media last night (Monday November 17), Roan reflected on her apprehension about topping the bill at the event – which leans heavily on rock and indie artists.

Other acts on this year’s line-up included Queens Of The Stone Age, Deftones, Damiano David, Garbage and Weezer.

“I was quite nervous for Mexico City because I wasn’t sure if the crowd would vibe with me because it’s such a rock leaning festival and I was like, will ppl still like me if I’m pop?” Roan wrote.

“But omg the crowd was so wonderful and I felt so loved and supported! So so sick I got to do this thank you for having me. l will continue practicing my Spanish every day. ¡Gracias!”

The star also attached a series of images from her performance and the “screaming banshee” outfit she wore for the slot, which was a custom-made Alexander McQueen.

In a recent interview with Vogue, Roan’s fashion director Genesis Webb explained: “The costume was to be inspired by early-20th-century brassieres, combined with 18th-century medical corsets and braces, which is consistent with the push and pull of feminine softness and rage.”

This summer saw the singer headline Reading & Leeds 2025. In a glowing five-star review of the slot, NME wrote: “Throughout the performance, there’s a feeling of camaraderie and community in the crowd.

“Strangers become new acquaintances, the ‘Hot To Go’ dance unites everyone in clumsily trying to remember the moves and in the right order, and before ‘Red Wine Supernova’, everyone raises pink cowboy hats and pink bandanas aloft. It feels like tens of thousands of like-minded people who’ve all got the same memo and have been brought together with the same intentions.”

Later, Roan brought out Heart’s Nancy Wilson for her cover of the rock classic ‘Barracuda’ in New York. Last December, Roan revealed that the track was her most-listened-to song of 2024. Her Spotify Wrapped results also featured Heart at Number Three in her top five artists of the year.

She recently reflected on her limited run of live performances this year and why “bringing queer people joy” is the reason she still loves what she does.

Meanwhile, Roan inducted Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame earlier this month. “Tonight, we honour a woman who redefined what a pop star could look like, sound like, and be,” she said.

Over the summer, she explained that she had “no idea” what her “next era” of music would sound like. Roan had previously admitted that her second album could “take at least five years to write”, and said the project “doesn’t exist yet”. She told fans earlier that her next LP would be a pop record, saying: “I’m not switching genres or anything.”

The former NME Cover star‘s released her debut album, ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’, in 2023. She has since shared a run of standalone singles: ‘Good Luck, Babe!’, ‘The Giver’ and ‘The Subway’ – the latter of which has been nominated for two Grammys.
