Another stellar track from Miami-based The Wax Worms, “Losing Weekends” pairs haunting neo-psychedelic intrigue with relatable lyrical laments on the daily grind — specifically, how working a dead-end job can cause one to feel like their time is disappearing. “And now I’m on the clock again,” the vocals let out with chilling impact as hazy guitar twangs and mellow keys stir alongside, building into a fervent organ-fronted finale that upticks the ardor with sating allure. It’s another thorough success from the act, who have caught our ears in the past with the tracks “Laura” and “Donny Says.”

Songwriter Max Harrison elaborates on the track:

“I wrote “Losing Weekends” when I was working full-time at a grocery store, and I just kind of started to feel like I was fading away. All of my time was disappearing, and I had so little energy to contribute to making music at the end of my workweeks. And because my week began at 7AM on Fridays, I eventually stopped going out, and succumbed to the existential dread. So one night, I sat down with my strat and wah pedal, cranked out my feelings, and ended up with “Losing Weekends”.

This song dropping the same month as May Day is entirely intentional. This song is for workers, people in wage-slavery, and for anybody who can relate to working at a job that doesn’t value your worth. “Losing Weekends” is an unapologetic anti-work anthem.”
