Boy Soda has officially announced his debut studio album, entitled Soulstar. The long-awaited long-player is set for release on Friday, October 3rd via Warner Music Australia – some five years after the Sydney-based future-rnb singer released his debut single. To coincide with the announcement, Boy Soda has shared the album’s third single ‘4K’, which sees him collaborating with two longtime friends: Gugu Yalanji/Birrigubba singer Dean Brady and non-binary Brisbane rapper Siala.

The song follows on from the release of ‘Lil Obsession’ in January and ‘Blink Twice’ last month. In a press statement, Soda explained that ‘4K’ was written and recorded while all three artists were together; Brady and Siala were staying at his Sydney residence at the time. “It’s such an honour to be friends with artists who are so incredible, vocally and artistically,” he said.

“Dean and Siala are prolific artists in their own right, so it feels like a really important contribution to the soul/rnb scene we’re trying to build here in Australia. We spend a lot of time together making music and just sharing space when either of them fly in, so it’s really amazing to have a song like ‘4K’ that speaks to our collective taste and love for embedding our souls in our music.” An accompanying music video has also been shared, directed by Adam Saunders and Simon Riel. Soda recorded Soulstar with producer Finbar Stuart at The Castle, an isolated recording studio located in the Blue Mountains. The pair worked with an extensive array of session musicians to add live instrumentation to every track, which Soda noted gave the album’s recording “a communal feel”. “There was this feeling that we were all doing something really incredible and special,” he said.

“It felt over-indulgent being able to have that many live instruments. I’m very aware of the rarity and the privilege to be able to make that [type of] album. But hey, who better than to call on your talented mates to make something special happen?”

Soda will launch the release of Soulstar with two live shows in October: One at Lazybones Lounge in Sydney on Wednesday, October 1st, and another at The Evelyn in Melbourne on Saturday, October 11th. Tickets for both shows are on sale now; tickets for the Sydney show can be purchased via Moshtix by clicking here and tickets for the Melbourne show can be purchased via Oztix here.

Soulstar itself, meanwhile, can be pre-ordered and pre-saved by clicking here.
