She’s got a way of getting fans hyped up for her new song. Two days ahead of the long-awaited release of “The Subway,” Chappell Roan has dropped a trailer for its accompanying music video.

Sharing a snippet of the teaser on Instagram and dropping the full clip on her YouTube, the pop star gave fans their first taste of what the ballad’s visual will entail on Wednesday (July 30). With Roan’s voice faintly audible in the distance, the dreamy video shows the Missouri native crawling on the floor of a dark subway car filled with women dancing under strobe lights, making the train seem more like a club than a mode of community transit.

It then cuts to Roan with impossibly long hair, quietly eating pizza as she sits on the edge of what appears to be the fountain in Washington Square Park in New York City. The teaser then flashes to a close-up of Roan riding another subway car, looking around her for someone she can’t seem to find.

The trailer comes just two days after the Missouri native announced that she’d be releasing “The Subway,” something fans have been waiting for since she first debuted the track during her 2024 Gov Ball set. The song arrives Thursday (July 31) at 8 p.m. ET, while the video will arrive on Friday (Aug. 1).

Roan hasn’t dropped a new song since “The Giver” earlier this year, which followed 2024 breakout single “Good Luck, Babe!” Listeners have been eager for new music ever since her 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, started rising on the charts over a year ago.

The star, however, is taking her time crafting her next LP. While announcing plans to play a series of pop-up shows later this year, Roan confirmed that there’s still much work to be done on her sophomore effort, writing that she “wanted the chance to do something special before going away to write the next album.”

See a clip of Roan’s “The Subway” trailer below.
