An Italian fan who’d flown in to see Oasis in Edinburgh last week tragically died in his hotel room just hours before he was due to see the band.
Alessandro Croce, a dentist and basketball player from Teramo, died in Scotland after collapsing at his hotel on August 9, according to a report from Sky News.
The 30-year-old fan was reportedly getting ready to attend Oasis’ gig at Murrayfield Stadium when he suddenly fell ill. His friends attempted to resuscitate him while they waited for paramedics to arrive, who also tried to save him, but ultimately, all efforts were unsuccessful.
Sky News Italia reported that Croce had suffered a cardiac arrest, and it’s understood that his family have arrived in Edinburgh to fly his body home to Italy.
Tributes have since poured in for the dentist and basketball enthusiast.
Gianguido D’Alberto, the Mayor of Teramo, was among those paying tribute, and said in a statement on social media that “our city is profoundly shaken by the passing of Alessandro Croce”.
He sent his condolences to the 30-year-old’s family, including his parents and his sister, Giulia. His team, Basketball Teramo, also said they were “devastated” and their community felt “deep pain” at the “sudden and premature” passing of their player.
“Alessandro was not only a pillar of our team, but an integral part of our history and of the heart of our association,” a statement shared to social media read.
“His memory and smile will remain forever alive in every match.”
It follows another recent tragedy at an Oasis gig, after 45-year-old Lee Claydon, a landscape gardener from Bournemouth, fell to his death at one of their Wembley gigs.
A GoFundMe was set up to raise money for his family, with the fundraiser campaign – which is still active – raising over £28,000 of the targeted £20,000.
Addressing the tragic incident, Oasis said in a statement: “We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”
