Joe Perry has joined forces with members of The Black Crowes and Stone Temple Pilots to play a handful of Aerosmith classics. Check it out below.

The live performances took place as Joe Perry recently kicked off his US tour dates with The Joe Perry Project – a band which sees him perform with Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, and Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo.

It marks the band’s first tour run in years, and began with an opening night at the Hard Rock Event Center in Tampa, Florida on Wednesday (August 15). It also marks some of Perry’s first live shows since Aerosmith abruptly brought their touring days to an end last year, following Steven Tyler injuring his larynx.

At the Joe Perry Project gig, Perry revisited some of Aerosmith’s biggest hits, and broke out live covers of their songs throughout the setlist.

Covers they performed in Florida included ‘Same Old Song And Dance’, ‘Mama Kin’, Last Child’, ‘Draw The Line’, and of course, ‘Walk This Way’ – which they closed the set with.

Given the members in the band, it was only fitting that they also dipped into Stone Temple Pilots’ catalogue – playing ‘Vasoline’ and ‘Interstate Love Song’ – and Black Crowes’ discography, breaking out ‘Twice As Hard’ and ‘Jealous Again’.

Check out footage and the setlist below.

The Joe Perry Project setlist was:

‘Let the Music Do the Talking’
    ‘My Fist Your Face’ (Aerosmith)
‘Same Old Song and Dance’ (Aerosmith)
    ‘East Coast, West Coast’
    ‘Get the Lead Out’ (Aerosmith)
‘Twice as Hard’ (The Black Crowes)
    ‘Fortunate One’
‘Interstate Love Song’ (Stone Temple Pilots)
    ‘Combination’ (Aerosmith)
‘Mama Kin / Get It Up’ (Aerosmith)
    ‘Vasoline’ (Stone Temple Pilots)
    ‘Won’t Let Me Go’
    ‘Jealous Again’ (The Black Crowes)
    ‘Bright Light Fright’ (Aerosmith)
    ‘Last Child’ (Aerosmith)
‘Chip Away the Stone’ (Richard Supa)
    ‘Draw the Line’ (Aerosmith)
‘The Train Kept A-Rollin’’ (Tiny Bradshaw)
    ‘Walk This Way’ (Aerosmith)

The tour for The Joe Perry Project consists of just 10 shows across the US, and wraps up with a slot opening for The Who on September 17 at their show at the Hollywood Bowl. Visit here for tickets.

The dates kicked off shortly after Perry did an interview with WBUR, and said that there was little hope of another full-blown tour being announced from Aerosmith due to Tyler’s voice issues.

“I would bet that there’s an Aerosmith show left,” he said. “There’s been talk about doing a documentary; that might be part of it. I’ve been spending a lot of time with Steven and he just doesn’t want to tour, and he can’t tour.”

“It’s tough. I’m not sure I would want to go out and book another 40-city tour. It’s a long way to the top and staying there takes it out of you, especially an Aerosmith tour,” he added.

He reemphasised the hopes for a one-off show, potentially like Black Sabbath’s ‘Back To The Beginning’, in another interview too, suggesting that there could be one more date that could be announced.

During an appearance on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation last month, he said: “I know there’s gotta be at least another Aerosmith gig, and I’m not looking forward to putting the set list together for that one, but I don’t know, man. We’ll just have to see.”

The rock icons announced their sudden retirement from touring in August 2024, following frontman Steven Tyler suffering a serious vocal cord injury.

While touring is off the cards for now, they have managed to play the odd show in the time since. In February, Tyler returned to the live stage for a charity event, and that was followed by a similar event in April that saw the frontman and Perry reunite on stage for the first time in two years.

Tyler then appeared at the aforementioned ‘Back To The Beginning’ show in Birmingham – forming a supergroup with Tom Morello, The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood and Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Quiet Riot’s Rudy Sarzo and Blink-182’s Travis Barker.

He then played again at the Sabbath farewell show, joining forces with Smashing Pumpkins’ frontman Billy Corgan, Sammy Hagar and more for a medley of ‘Walk This Way’ and Led Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’.

As for other Aerosmith news, earlier this summer, bassist Tom Hamilton spoke more about their future and said that he “doesn’t know what the future holds” for Steven Tyler and co. because of the vocal injury. He then went on to confirm details of his latest project, working with a band called Close Enemies alongside drummer Tony Brock, singer Chasen Hampton, and guitarists Peter Stroud and Trace Foster.
