Ryan Reynolds will reportedly be making an appearance as Deadpool in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on December 18, 2026 and will feature the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time in the role of villain Doctor Doom.
Many of the big names associated with the franchise will be part of the film, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther.
Earlier this week, Reynolds posted the Avengers logo on Instagram with an anarchy symbol painted over it, leading to many MCU fans speculating that he was teasing his involvement in the movie, and now a report appears to have confirmed that.
In The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision strand, they cited a source that confirmed Deadpool will be in the film, although it was noted: “Don’t expect him to actually be joining the Avengers team, though”.
Chris Evans recently said he was “sad” not to be returned as Steve Rogers/Captain America for the film.
Earlier this year, Avengers: Doomsday was moved from May 2026 to December, giving the production extra time to finish up but leaving fans impatient. One of the film’s cast, Alan Cumming, confirmed the return of his X-Men character Nightcrawler in the film.
Also in the film will be Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn as the Fantastic Four, as well as Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, who will return to their X-Men characters Charles Xavier and Magneto.
Reynolds first played Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson, in 2016’s eponymous film, as well as 2018’s Deadpool 2 and 2024’s hugely successful Deadpool & Wolverine.
In a three-star review of the latter, NME wrote: “Despite the A-list distractions (no spoilers here), Deadpool & Wolverine is really all about Reynolds and Jackman. In fact, it’s really all about Reynolds – with Jackman doing a heroic job of playing the surly straight man trying to keep up with Reynolds’ sweary killer clown. The first two Deadpool films were funny and violent and original, but this one shows Marvel’s most gloriously inappropriate superhero at his very best and worst.”
