Bugs have announced their first show in over two years, which is a mini-festival dubbed Saving A Bug’s Life. The show is set for Saturday, October 4th at The Tivoli in the band’s native Brisbane, and will see all proceeds from the show donated to the band’s bassist, Jordan Brunoli – who, earlier this year, was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer. The full line-up can be found below.
“Thanks to a bunch of incredibly selfless acts from generous, loving people, we are putting on a fundraising show,” the band announced today (August 18th). “We have a bunch of prizes, raffles and giveaways to be announced, so grab a ticket if you want to support us and be a part of something special.” The line-up features bands, solo artists and DJs from across the Australian music scene.
Bugs – ‘Neighbourhood’
In June, the band – after not performing since August 2023 – revealed to the general public that Brunoli had been in treatment for months following his formal diagnosis. “At just 29 years of age, this has come as a huge shock to his family and loved ones,” the band wrote at the time.
“The cancer has aggressively spread to his entire liver and lymph nodes. This renders him unable to work for the foreseeable future. Two weeks ago, he was admitted to hospital and underwent major surgery, removing tumours from his bowel and lymph nodes, resulting in the instillation of a stoma. Whilst he is back at home for the moment after being discharged from hospital, the prospect of chemo and future surgeries have been flagged by doctors.
“Considering the ongoing costs that specialist appointments, medical treatments, medicines and quality of life assistance have the potential to amount to – we are asking for financial help to support him and his partner, through this period.” The band shared a GoFundMe page with a goal of raising $100,000 – which they recently achieved earlier this month. At the time of writing, Brunoli’s GoFundMe has received $100,348 in donations from over 1200 different donors.
“Your support and generosity has been overwhelming,” wrote Brunoli in an update to the GoFundMe. “My family and I can’t thank you enough. Every last one of you has touched me deeply. I love you all, and feel extremely loved back. Through the blood, sweat and tears, knowing that there is a financial safety net for future surgeries or medical costs has provided a lot of comfort.”
