Calvin Harris has said a scrapped collaboration with Miley Cyrus was “my bad”.

In May 2024, the Scottish DJ and producer shared a snippet of an unreleased track, where Cyrus could be heard singing over a fingerpicked guitar and pounding techno beat: “We were dancing, we were wild up in the ocean / Ocean, ocean / Love the way you lie me down and break me open / Open, open.”
He further revealed in the comments that he was “trying” to release the collaboration, saying he was “not sure” when the song would be released. That July, however, it was reportedly “discarded”, with Harris deleting all social media posts teasing the track.
Now, over a year later, Harris has shared a new teaser for the same project in a recent TikTok, this time with Jessie Reyez singing instead of Cyrus.

Fans have since questioned where Cyrus’s vocals have gone, with one writing: “Awwwwww where’s Miley!!!!!”, to which Harris replied, “I do not know.” Another person added, “We only want Miley,” to which Harris responded, “Off you pop then.”
Harris eventually clarified that he doesn’t have anything against Cyrus. When someone questioned why he was directing “hate” at her, he said: “I love Miley,” later writing that the vocalist has “an amazing voice.”
“It was my bad … crossed wires,” he also responded to someone asking whether it had been Cyrus’ “fault” that the collab had been shelved. To another fan who asked if there was “any issue between” Harris and Cyrus, he answered, “Absolutely not!!”
In the comments of his TikTok post teasing the track, Harris also explained that Reyez has always been a part of the upcoming song, saying that she wrote the lyrics. He responded to one fan who’d asked, “Wasn’t this one the one with Miley Cyrus?” by writing, “Kind of but it was with Jessie first.”
He also added that Cyrus’s version would probably never be heard, responding to one person asking: “any chance Miley’s version could still be released,” Harris wrote, “I’m afraid not.” And to another fan who implored, “Please release it with Miley’s vocals,” the producer said, “Not possible.”
Elsewhere, Harris previously shared his recent single ‘Blessings’, which saw him get into a public spat with trance producer Chicane, and country track ‘Smoke The Pain Away‘, the first song that he’s contributed vocals to in several years.
As for Cyrus, she recently shared that she isn’t planning on hitting the road anytime soon, in support of her new album ‘Something Beautiful’, as touring has a negative impact on her mental health.
In other Miley Cyrus news, earlier this year the singer revealed that it was an interaction with Harrison Ford that led to her backing out of the idea of “performing in the forest” to promote her new album.
In NME’s four-star review of the record, Nick Levine wrote: “Featuring 13 tracks that unfurl over 53 minutes, ‘Something Beautiful’ is sprawling and apparently unperturbed by contemporary chart trends.
“It’s difficult to think of a Spotify playlist that might accommodate ‘Reborn’, which sounds a bit like an Andrew Lloyd Webber show tune written on mild hallucinogens. So while ‘Something Beautiful’ probably isn’t Cyrus’s most hit-packed album, it does feel like a fully realised artistic statement. This post-genre pop star has pulled off another pretty big swing.”
