Acclaimed scientist and frequent triple j guest Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki has been grilled by the station’s presenter Lucy Smith on a weighty topic – namely, how scientific the lyrics of Addison Rae‘s 2024 hit single ‘Diet Pepsi’ actually are. During a recent live show held by the pair at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, Smith presented Kruszelnicki with a clip from the song in which Rae sings “Break all the rules/Til we get caught/Fog up the windows in the parking lot”.
“How long would Addison and her man need to be in the car to fog up the windows?” queried Smith, to which Dr. Kruszelnicki responded: “I need more information. Is the car stopped, or are they doing everything while they’re doing blockies?” Upon being informed that the car is presumably stopped, given the couple are in a partking lot, Kruszelnicki notes that two factors are at play.
The first is “how cold the air is on the outside”, and the second is “how active they are”. “If the air temprature is, say,10 degrees [Celsius] outside, [and] it’s the middle of the night, I reckon in a couple of minutes they could fog up the windows,” he hypothesised.
Science With Dr. Karl Live In Sydney
“Can somebody do the experiment?” he asked the audience to a loud laugh. “You’ve got to document it. The difference between science and screwing around is that you’ve got to write it down. We want a large sample size, too – at least double figures.”
The clip comes from the debut live recording of Science With Dr. Karl, the scientist’s weekly segment with Smith on triple j, which took place earlier in the month on Monday, August 11th. Ironically, when announcing the show at the time, Smith remarked that she “couldn’t believe [she] and Addison Rae are performing on the same stage this year”. Among several other topics throughout the show, Dr. Karl touched on how he originally came to first appear on triple j – then 2JJ – back in 1981, shortly after the launch of the NASA Space Shuttle
Rae will, indeed, be performing on the Enmore Theatre stage for two sold-out nights this November. Six weeks later, she will hit the new-year festival circuit with appearances at both Beyond The Valley and Wildlands. The full line-up and ticketing information for both can be found here and here.
