Jamie Woon has announced ‘3, 10, Why, When’, his first album in 10 years, and shared the singles ‘When’ and ‘Pulling On A Thread’ – listen below.
The British songwriter and producer has not released a full-length record under his own name since 2015’s ‘Making Time’, but he has now confirmed that his new album will be out on October 3 via his own label Also Can (pre-order/pre-save here).
The first tasters of the album came with ‘Heavy Going’ and ‘A Velvet Rope’ last month, and now, fans have two more singles to dig into. ‘When’ is a jittering, percussive track that twitches with anxiety, while ‘Pulling On A Thread’ is a smooth, sultry production with swelling strings and soothing R&B vocals.

A BRIT School graduate, Woon broke through with his 2010 single ‘Night Air’, co-produced by Burial, and released his debut album ‘Mirrorwriting’ in 2011.
In the years since ‘Making Time’, Woon has worked as a producer with artists such as Holly Walker, Elmiene and Lil Silva, while the material for this album came about while he was working alongside the producer Martin Terefe.
“He’s very humble despite working on huge smash hits with artists from all over the world,” Woon has said about Terefe. “He saw what I was struggling with and hung in there with me. He sort of tricked me into making an album – we made one song, then another, then when we had 10 we just said that’s the album.”
Speaking about the album, Woon added: “I don’t really know how to explain this music. It’s extraordinary to me that it exists at all.”
“I’m curious to see if I can build something that doesn’t kill my creative flow, and see if that can be something I can offer to others eventually,” he added.
NME awarded ‘Making Time’ three stars in 2015, writing: “Like it’s predecessor, ‘Making Time’ has more in common with ’90s neo soul singers like Maxwell and Erykah Badu than dubstep. If anything, the umbilical cord stretching back to neo soul is even more evident, and Woon says the record is directly inspired the genre’s biggest name, D’Angelo.”
