The Mary Wallopers have announced a five-night residency at Glasgow’s iconic Barrowland Ballroom. Find all the details below.

The Irish folk band will take to the stage at the beloved Scottish venue in the run-up to Christmas 2025. Dubbed ‘Five-Night Stand’, the shows are scheduled for December 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21.

The forthcoming gigs follow The Mary Wallopers’ run of dates at Vicar Street in Dublin last December, as part of their festive ‘Seven Drunken Nights’ trek across Ireland.

Tickets go on general sale at 10am BST this Friday (August 29) – you’ll be able to buy yours here. Alternatively, fans can access a pre-sale at the same time tomorrow (Wednesday August 27) by signing up here.

“We are buzzing to announce a five night stand in our fave venue the @barrowland_ballroom in December!” the group wrote on social media, alongside an official tour poster.

“To celebrate, our new music video for ‘The Juice’ is out now over on our YouTube page! Love ye lots xoxoxo.” You can watch the visuals for The Mary Wallopers’ latest single above.

The band also looked back at their set at Victorious Festival 2025 on Friday, writing: “Jaysus that was some weekend.” They had their slot cut short at the event after calling for a “free Palestine”, saying “fuck Israel”, and displaying the Palestine flag.

Writing on their Instagram Stories, the band said: “Just got cut off at Victorious Festival for having a Palestinian flag on the stage. We’ve been doing this for six years now and this has never happened before. Free Palestine all day every day.”

Vampire Weekend expressed their support for The Mary Wallopers during their headline set at Victorious the following night (August 23). “If someone was punished for flying a flag, that is wrong and they deserve an apology,” said frontman Ezra Koenig. “The terrible suffering of the Palestinian people deserves all of our sympathy.”

The Murder Capital spoke out on the controversial decision, too. Acts including The Last Dinner Party, The Academic, Cliffords and Esme Emerson decided to boycott the festival after it pulled the plug on The Mary Wallopers.

“We are outraged by the decision made to silence The Mary Wallopers yesterday at Victorious,” The Last Dinner Party wrote. “As a band we cannot cosign political censorship and will therefore be boycotting the festival today.”

Last Friday, Victorious told NME that “although a flag was displayed on stage contrary to our policy, and this was raised with the artist’s crew, the show was not ended at this point, and it was the artist’s decision to stop the song. The decision by the event management to cut the sound and end the performance was only taken after the band used a chant which is widely understood to have a discriminatory context.”

The festival subsequently posted a statement that said they “didn’t handle the explanation of our policies sensitively or far enough in advance to allow a sensible conclusion to be reached. This put the band and our own team in a difficult situation which never should have arisen. We would like to sincerely apologise to all concerned.”

Meanwhile, The Mary Wallopers are currently at work on their third studio album. A press release notes that more information on the project will be “coming soon”. Their second full-length effort, ‘Irish Rock N Roll’, was released in 2023.

The band’s latest single, ‘The Juice’, arrived last month. They shared a three-track EP titled ‘Home Boys Home’ last summer.

Speaking to NME last year, The Mary Wallopers’ Andrew Hendy explained that “there needs to be a voice that’s giving the rowdy side of folk back to people”.

Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten later shouted out the group in an interview with NME, where he discussed there being “such a moment for Irish musical history” currently.
