Elijah Wood has revealed his favourite video games of all time while taking part in a Reddit Ask Me Anything interview.
Elijah Wood is currently promoting The Toxic Avenger, which hits cinemas today (August 29).
“Set in a fantasy world, The Toxic Avenger follows janitor Winston Gooze (Peter Dinklage) who, after a freak accident, transforms into a mutant vigilante known as Toxie. Armed with his mop, the unlikely hero battles freaks, gangsters and corrupt CEOs while trying to save his relationship with his son.”
In the film, Wood plays Fritz Garbinger, the younger brother of Kevin Bacon’s corrupt businessman Bob and the manager of chaotic rock band Killer Nutz. “Being given the opportunity to transform and kind of disappear into the character was such a blast. The kind of cartoonish villainy of the character, who also just wants to be loved, was a joy to play,” Wood said of the role while taking part in a Reddit AMA to support The Toxic Avenger’s release.
Wood was also asked “what’s your favorite video game and is there anything that you’ve been playing recently that you wanted to highlight?”
“It’s difficult to single out one game as my all-time favourite but I have a real soft spot for the Lucasarts adventure games from the ’90s like The Secret Of Monkey Island, Full Throttle and Sam & Max Hit The Road. I just love the adventure game format and the heavy focus on great, often comedic, writing. I was honored to get to work with a master of that era, Tim Schafer, on Broken Age, which was truly a gift to be a part of,” he replied.
“Lately I’ve been loving Blue Prince (a modern puzzle masterpiece) and Wheel World on the Steam Deck,” he added.
Back in 2021, Wood said he’d love to star in a Grand Theft Auto adaptation. “The universe lends itself beautifully to a screen adaptation or a tv show,” he explained. “I mean, I think Vice City could be amazing although that already is sort of inspired by Miami Vice. But GTA V, the kinds of characters that are present within the context of that game very much lends itself either to a film or a tv series, that would be amazing.”
Earlier this year, cosy Lord Of The Rings game Tales Of The Shire had a disappointing launch with fans upset about the “mediocre” new game.
However, Sir Ian McKellen recently revealed that his character of Gandalf would be returning for new Lord Of The Rings film The Hunt For Gollum. He also confirmed Wood’s Frodo would be making an appearance.
In other news, a new report claims Sony is working on a PlayStation handheld console to rival the Nintendo Switch 2.
